Ps. 'elongatus Ornatus' Ndumbi (Likoma)

Postby Arteta » Mon Feb 08, 2010 22:29

Been wondering for a while why it is my batch of elongatus ornatus I have, some are blue, some are yellow. As the parents are both blue I was expecting the yellow ones to eventually turn blue but they haven't even though some are up to three times bigger than the blue ones????

Looking through Konings 4th edition (page 18) there are females from Ndumbi (likoma) that are both yellow and blue..... so is it possible if both parents of the same colour could have offspring a different colour?

geneticly yes... the female and or male could carry the yellow gene.

Are you sure they r not hybrids though?

Yellow labs
Couple of OB's and 1 juv pearlmutt

Definetely don't think it's a hybrid cos they're too similar to their parents. The yellow one is slightly more yellow in reality

I myself have the same fish, wild caught.

The fry has come out both yellow and blue, however I am expecting them all to turn blue when reaching adult size. I'd just wait and see.
