Postby ddanman » Mon Feb 08, 2010 17:45

hi everybody as i have posted before i am in the process of setting up a malawi tank my question this time is about filters,my tank is a 4ft which holds 250 litres i have a eheim professional 2 external filter i also have a fluval 4 and wondered if i should run this as well as the extra filtration it will also give good water movement or should i not run it and use a power head instead for water movement or should i run it and a power head ?

i would definately run both if one packs in while you are out no problem and it will give you good water movement too,i dont see any bad points in running 2 filters :good: i run 2 fluval 405 on my 4 foot

You want to turn your water over as much as possible :)
I have a tetratec 1200 and fluval 305 on a 200lt understocked tank.

run the two filters AND the powerhead. Get as much surface movement as you can without being too noisy :good:

just remember you do not need to make your tank a wirlpool!

the more filtration the better though. And as sam said, if 1 packs in the other will be like a backup.

I personally always run an internal my current 1 being the F4 also along with my externals. My reasons well if I need to use any chemical filtration its a quick fix. I also use a ventura to boost the surface movement. Great also if I need an extra matured filter for say a hospital tank in an emergency as I dont have one running or less I need it, thinking of environment here . I also find them useful if you want to try anything new like I did with some mysterious wonder products such as algone etc.
Obviously it acts as an extra mechanical and biological filter also.
